I'm reading the book Animal, Vegetable, Miracle for October's book club. Only a few chapters in and already it's tapped into my desire to eat healthier, to eat more local and to make things from scratch. Some foods are so surprisingly easy to make at home, not to mention tastier, I kind of surprise myself that I even bother purchasing them from a store. Recently I decided to experiment with egg noodles. The only ingredients required were...flour and eggs. Easy peasy! Rolling it through my Kitchen-Aid Mixer aided in the speed of the process and with the entertainment as I watched the dough turn increasing more into the egg noodle color and consistency I was accustomed to. After drying the noodles for an hour I plopped them into a pot of boiling water and 3 minutes later they were done.
Topped off with a little beef stroganoff, the kids gobbled them up and I felt good knowing exactly what was entering their tummies because I knew exactly what went into the noodles.
