Welcome Jemaine

Meet Jemaine. He's 7 years old, eats like a mouse, tore up every home he's ever owned and spends his days spinning around in a bright green ball. And he's our new pet gerbil, graciously on loan from our son Andrew's preschool. We wouldn't normally take in pets since we all seem to be allergic but given Jemaine's size and the short term committment (and our need to earn service points for school) we took him in. That and we knew Andrew would love hosting and admiring this wiggly critter.

Our only reservation in taking Jemaine under our care was summed up best when my husband asked, "What happens if he dies? Do we get negative service points?" It's been awhile since I have cared for a pet and despite my initial reservations about keeping old Jemaine alive, I told myself I had two functioning kids and they hadn't died under my care, I could certainly manage a gerbil. So here we are, one green run-about ball, three scoops of gerbil food and 24 squeaky spinning wheel hours later, caring for and adoring Jemaine.
