Majesty

Walking back from the Farmer's Market today the boys and I happened to spot what ranks as one of my most awe-inspiring sights and that is of an American Bald Eagle majestically, and I mean majestically, soaring above our heads.  The looming shadow of this bird with it's dazzling white head and tail all in front of the menacing grey storm clouds rolling towards us made for a jaw-dropping worthy image in our sky (I did not, unfortunately, have my camera so the image above is not the bird I saw today, swap out the blue for dark grey and you've about captured our view).  If any of you have had the good fortune of witnessing a Bald Eagle soaring in the wild (still awe-inspiring in the zoo but missing the exhilaration of spotting it in the wild) what probably first caught your eye was the size of this incredible creature.  Their size alone seizes your attention from the start.  At first I thought it was a vulture because heck, when do you ever see a Bald Eagle outside a nature center or zoo?  As it dawns on you that it's still way bigger than any vulture you've ever seen and it's flying solo swooping through the air in big, bold, graceful circles it begins to hit you.  It's also right about the point you'll start craning your neck and squinting your eyes wishing for that glimpse of white.  And THERE IT IS!  You've got yourself a Bald Eagle.

As quickly as I spotted it, stood in awe for the moment, it glided off to another part of the sky behind some trees and sadly, was no longer visible.  Not ready to let it go I quickly hopped on the swings at the playground we had stopped at and swung as high as I could go craning my neck to see over the treetops to where the eagle had disappeared.  Hours later it still thrills me to think of what I saw flying overhead today after our excursion to the Farmer's Market.
