Inventive Spelling

As with all young elementary aged kids Brandon is working on spelling.  I find it a pretty fascinating process to watch young writers learn how to put thoughts onto paper.  This particular picture is from Brandon's first days of Kindergarten where he wrote about his favorite thing about his classroom experience.  If you can identify the ATSD in the lower right you are one step closer to realizing his favorite thing is "outside", as in, 'he likes to play outside'.  Ok, cool.  Moving on in the picture...I feel it is important to note at this point that "Dad" had been out of the country for two weeks when this drawing was made which also means that "Mom" has been single parenting it during that same timeframe.  Anyhow, does anyone else notice that Mom's face looks, ummm, not-so-cheery?  And not only that - why did Dad get the heart eye?!?

I suppose I need to work on my parenting style while functioning as a single parent.  Hats off to all of you who have to single parent it on a more permanent basis and can get your kid to draw you looking a little more light-hearted.

Grrrumph...
