Mmmmm...another sick day. These days have their highs and lows. The highs being that I get to be there for my children to comfort them when they are feeling unwell and spending a chillaxin' day with them, the downside being that I'm usually pretty tired on those days since we've been kept up all night by their coughing, talking in their sleep (they do that when they're ill), fevers and nighttime wakings to tell us they don't feel well. Today was one of those days but I rather liked spending the day with them. As they get older I grab on a little tighter to who they are, what they're thinking and how they're interpreting the world around them. So sick days just give me an extra "freebie" day to spend my time doing just those things. After a morning spent sleeping-in and sleeping-off part of the restless night we all experienced we then lazily woke up, notified their schools they would not be coming in that day and went about finding a suitable breakfast for sore throats and sleepy bones. My slight guilt over not having them in school was assuaged by reading them stories, practicing our letter writing and playing spelling and rhyming games in the car on some errands I had to run on this day. The day ended peacefully with some finger-knitting and, as always, LEGO constructing.
