Two Steps to a Cork Trivet

My husband and I have been collecting wine bottle corks for a long period of time.  We have too many of them.  They have filled up their assigned jars, a few unassigned jars and they are now pouring over into my kitchen utensil drawers.  While Steve was out of town I decided it was time to do something with them.  I saw this craft on the internet somewhere awhile ago and it looked cool so I thought I'd give it a try.  It's simple but I'm not sure it was the best use of the corks but since we have so many I figured a few for this crafty project wouldn't be missed.

SUPPLIES
Corks (approx. 40)
Glue gun
Glue sticks

This project works best if all your corks are relatively the same height.  Most of the corks from our collection came in only 2 sizes so this made it pretty easy to sort.  But we drink a lot of the same wine so perhaps this was just a coincidence.  Whichever, make sure your corks are the same height for this project.

STEP 1: Using the hot glue gun, glue two corks together.

STEP 2: Continue adding corks one at a time and form into desired shape.  It may work best if you cut out your chosen shape from a piece of paper and use it as a guide when determining where to place corks.  (I chose a rustic circle but you could do a letter, a heart, a Christmas Tree, get creative!  Feel free to share your ideas in the comments section.  I'd love to hear them!)

A cork trivet!  Who could ask for anything more?!?
Taking orders now for this Holiday season.  Get them while they last!
